a long journey begins with the first step
but ends in pointless wonder

I did this piece as my first project for my Digital Illustration class. The point of the project was to take a rock, hide it within 200ft of the classroom, and then create a map to it in ten 3X3 frames. So this image is basically different shots from inside my school. I took the photos with a digital camera then transferred them into Illustrator CS and began vectoring the image. The one restrictiion I decided to place upon myself with this project, was to NOT use ANY gradients or effects, unlike my previous Illustrator work. Anyway it was much harder than I thought, because I had to really observe and analyze the many aspects of each image, and build each shape for each shadow and each object in the photo piece by piece. I am quite happy with the results, I learned so much, and I believe I've never put this much time into any other project. The hard copy version of this was 13X19' in size, and it was printed black on the other side also. The idea was to create sort of a scroll out of it. So enjoy everyone, let me know what you think. :) PLEASE VIEW FULL-SIZE FOR DETAIL.

Great idea. Love how they are all set in there own squares. Even without the vectors they come across great. Great feeling of light and depth. Great work :)

I really dig the concept and I like the streamlined technical look of it. Looks like you've definitely reached your goal with this :) Great work!
